KINGPIN CAMPAIGNS COMPETITION THAT WILL LED TO DESTRUCTION OF INDIGENOUS FOREST IN BARARGET FOREST STATION AND MARIASHONI FOREST TO CREATE SETTLEMENTS.

Mr. President,  you have been a champion of Environmental conservation, there was a time when you launched a campaign for 15 billion trees to be planted countrywide to mitigate the effects of climate change.

Now recently, if you are not aware, some leaders from Kericho,Bomet and Transmara want to disappoint you by looking for political mileage using the ruling of Judge Mutungi to bring people from Kericho, Transmara, Bomet and Narok just because of the interest of the kingpin.

They have taken advantage of Judge Mutungi's judgement to create settlements in Indigenous forests.

They intend to settle them in the areas of Vikingi, block 10, and Daraja Mungu.

On 8 May 2024  Regional Commander Mau /JEU Commander David Mutoro visited the area of Block 10 village to confirm an early report on the same.

During the visit, the following observations were made,

● More than 100 acres of forest land were affected by mudslides and a spring of water, which almost swept some homesteads away.

■Dangerous cracks were visible on the ground, posing more danger to the residents residing in the area

This was a result of illegal encroachment of the forest land resulting in human activities, especially cultivation and illegal settlement along the riparian.

Due to the imminent danger being posed by the above activities, Regional Commander Mau recommended immediate relocation of the community living around the affected areas and also to stop any cultivation activities, especially in Nakuru County and other affected areas.

There has never been a survey demarcating that area because it's a riparian area and also a water catchment area and it's just approximate 3 kilometres from the largest wetlands in Nakuru County that's Nopuiyopui swamp.

The targeted areas to clear are Indigenous forests that joined the Mariashoni forest station and Bararget  forest stations.
